People often confuse mental health with mental illness. However, they are very different things.

Mental health is a state of well-being that everyone possesses. In a nutshell, it refers to one's emotions, thoughts, self-image, self-awareness and problem solving ability.

A mental illness is a clinical condition that can affect one's thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. Terms like 'depression', 'anxiety', 'eating disorders' are examples of mental disorders that can stem from mental illnesses.

Remember: Just because someone is experiencing poor mental health, doesn't mean they are living with a mental illness.
