'Stress' is such an overused word! But what is it really refer to?

In the prehistoric era, stress helped our ancestors to survive in the wild. When a threat or danger presented itself the body would go into preparation mode.

The muscles would tighten, heart rate and blood pressure would increase, the stress hormones would get released in the body. All to prepare for flight or fight.

Today, we experience threats that are not necessarily physical, but more psychological and emotional in nature. But the interesting thing is, that he human stress responses haven’t evolved with time. We still have the same type of stress responses as our ancestors did.
