We know that exercise is essential and beneficial for our bodies but it also has immense benefits for our brains. Did you know that exercise regulates the chemicals and hormones in the brain?
Every time we exercise, our brain releases chemicals like dopamine, serotonin and endorphins. These two hormones are called the ‘happy hormones’ and are responsible for lifting our mood.
Exercise also leads to the oxygenation of the brain. When we work out, the heart pumps more blood to the brain and exposes the brain to more nutrients and oxygen.
Research has shown that because of these effects of exercise, our memory and cognitive flexibility improve.
